EUROPEAN "GIANT" HORNET vs COMMON GREEN DARNER

HORNET TAKES ON A DARNER

I was walking slowly through some knee high grass near a large wetlands when I came upon a perched Green Darner.
I was just about to raise my camera to the darner when a European hornet struck like a bolt of lightning.
The hornet and darner danced around for about 30 seconds but I knew the darner was doomed.
Soon it stopped struggling and the hornet went to work on it.
I am not sure how the hornet killed it, whether it was by stinging or actually chewing into the darner's thorax.
The hornet methodically butchered the darner, chewing and cutting through the flesh to dispose of the wings and abdomen,
then removed the treasure. Was it the head or thorax? Not sure.
When it emerged from the weeds I didn't recognize the cargo it was carrying.
