DARNERS-Genus Aeshna (Shadow Darner)

GENUS AESHNA

Shadow Darner

A large dragonfly measuring 2.5 to 3.0 inches, widespread in the U.S. and Canada. It is found along shaded streams with a slow current,
small rivers, shaded ponds and swamps. It is not often seen out in the open and is most active in shade and at dusk.
Patroling males often hover close to banks. After males and females mate, females fly singly,
without the male attached, to lay their eggs in the stems and leaves of aquatic plants.
