Sunday, the final day of the 37th Annual Santa Clara International Swim Meet was complete with surprise finishes and six of the twelve event's Meet Records being broken. Brendan Hansen lowered his 200m Breaststroke mark to 2:14.77. It took a new Meet Record for Aaron Peirsol to hold off Michael Phelps in the 100m Back--Peirsol clocked 54.91 vs Jeff Rouse's 1992 record of 55.13. Adrienne Binder, pushed by 15-year old Kate Ziegler, set a new 800m Free meet standard of 8:34.53. Ziegler was also under the old Meet Record of 8:35.73 set by Janelle Atkinson in 2000. Erik Vendt won the 1500m in a 15:11.84--way under Chris Thompson's 2001 Meet Record of 15:20.84. Both 400 Medley Relay records were also broken: Women's by ABSC GA and Men's by Ubc Dolphin A team. As the meet closed, Michael Phelps was signing autographs for a LONG line of kids (and adults).
