One of the five common "King Skimmers" in Wisconsin. Both sexes show broad black patches at the wing bases. Males have whitish bands outside of the black patches and a whitish (pruinose) abdomen. Females shows a black abdomen with yellow side-stripes. The wing pattern makes this medium-sized, pond-dwelling dragonfly difficult to misidentify.
