Hua Hin used to be one of the oldest Thailand holiday destinations for the King. I think its nicer than Samui because the sand is whiter and the ocean is bluer. Recently with the opening of a few modern themed resorts like AKA and Let's Sea, its getting some traction again among the crowd in HK. We went on Jan 28-Feb 2 2008
We highly recommend staying at the AKA Resort and spend all day doing nothing and chilling out at the main pool! If you were to ask us what to put under the "interests" section in our CV, it would naturally be "do nothing" and thats what we are good at. Since AKA is so quiet- its perfect for spending time doing nothing, you rarely see other guests there. Our pool villa is right outside of the main public pool and we simply left our tiny pool in the backyard behind and took the plunge in the main pool, which for the full 5 days, was deserted. As the heat picks up to 30c in mid January, we drench our thirst with their amazing fruit frosties- we tried papaya, watermelon, lychee, coconut, mango, thailand tangerine and there is also guava, lemon, green apple on the menu. The restaurant is also managed by 2 french chefs from Provence who made the most buttery pastries and fantastic banana pancakes- we get weird stares from the servers there wondering why we are not going to Hua Hin city and procrastinating in the resort all the time- guess we have to send them our CVs
On Day 3, with a little bit of effort, we ventured to Hua Hin and spent 4 hrs at the heavenly Barai spa, they wont let me take pictures in there (luckily I snapped a few secrety) and its not possible to describe the entire experience in words, and we also visited Let's Sea, an amazing resort where all the villas are attached to a main "pool canal" and you can just dive into the water from your hotel room
Finally to cap off our trip we took part in, as Janice calls it, Caveman (Cro-magnon perhaps) BBQ feast at the Anatara Hotel next to the beach, the whiffs of their bread pudding has travelled miles and we found ourselves there to pig out on their buffet
