Hello again,
l have just re-read your comments and it seems to me this is a natural shot?
And that you do not agree with baiting?
It seems to me from the opinions you express you are definitely respecting your animal and bird subjecrs at all times and especially when photographing them.
That is how it comes across.

hI Ray,
this is an absolutely stunning image - definitely l would choose it for the brochure
Could not help seeing some of the comments so please e-mail me and clarify how the image was obtained. If there was no discomfort or stress caused to the subject it can still be usedl.
I am of course not encouraging any practices that are not in the best interests of the birds and animals but am sure you would not do that anyway!

Definately in the top 12. The pose is just too good to pass up and the overall image works! Tom Hardin

The quirky head tilt adds a lot of interest to this shot. A nice portrait of the bird.

thanks for the comments everyone., although this is not an open forum for discussion, i am happy to see people expressing their opinions in here. Yes, their are many issues that can be said for and against baiting, and it is a personal choice until the law comes into play, and it seems as though some of the people directly involved with the baiting of this bird may be dealt with under the laws of this country.

To me, it all depends on the situation... we need to consider the species, its habits, its migration, and what potentially may happen in extreme conditions. I do not think bird feeders are an issue, but I do not think feeding grizzly bears is a wise choice. Baiting the eagles in Alaska may prove to be a potentially damaging situation when the feeding stops.

Personally, I will not get involved with baiting raptors to get images., never. It is not what I consider wildlife shooting., but that is only my choice, and what everyone else does is up to them, unless the law gets involved.

I consider the whole issue unfortunate., it is hard enough for everyone to get along out there, and on our computers, now we continue to build walls between us. It bothers me that photographers are getting a bad reputation through all this. so long as cameras have been around nature, baiting has been going on, and I doubt it will change anytime soon.

take care.

So what is the difference between baiting to get a great shot and feeding the local birds, ducks and geese, seeds and bread I ask my self.....Is that no baiting as well?
A good number of people do go out to feed nature and do not feed them year round. Are they also wrong?.... Just my opinion

I do however agree with Ron... it is grey and we need to make our own choices.

Great shooting ray

Bravo Ray

Nice set of pictures of the hawk owl, I do agree with you about baiting like that. I tend to think that bird watchers that have backyard feeders are different in that they keep it up all year. It is a grey area that each person has to make a choice about. I don't bait for my pictures and don't think I ever will. Ron

Hi Ray, the ethics aside this is a fabulous photo, great composition and razor sharp.

Thanx for the notes. Pretty disappointing what we sometimes do to get those pictures. Hopefully this kind of practice will fade away in time. Nature is beautiful as it is.
