These images are from the Bookcliffs desert north of Grand Junction, CO. Specifically along 27 1/4 Road near the airport, about 4 to 5 1/2 miles north of the turnoff from H Road. I love the colors and patterns of the lichens on the rocks along the washes where flash floods occur. It's one of my new favorite places to find images. I've recently switched to digital from 4X5, using a Nikon D800. As I've learned to use the "shooting menu", the images have gotten better. Some of the early ones were underexposed because I hadn't become familiar enough with the +/- function and the meter read some of the bright colors as neutral gray. The "Active D Lighting" and built in HDR functions have allowed me to create images that match what I saw better than I ever could before with 4x5. There are over 200 images to upload, so it will take some time, and I find more rocks to photograph everyday.
