Spider Hunting

Florida

This female sandhill crane was feeding in its wetland
habitat normally, probing the mud for invertebrates. But
occasionally it would spy a spider and consume it if it could.
A careful look in front of the crane should reveal its backlit prey.
The male had no interests in the spiders. Could be that any added
protein in the diet is valuable at egg laying time.
