Appian Way

(Via Appia Antica, Roma, Italia.)
This was the most pleasant part of my trip. The area is scenic and peaceful, except for occasional motor vehicles, which gouge the stones while going over potholes. Walking makes more sense than bike riding here. Also, my rental bicycle needed major repairs. The footpath beside the Appian Way is smoother than the stones of the ancient road, although the path has more ups and downs. In some spots there is more and faster traffic, so the path is safer. The 664 bus runs once per hour. One hour of exploring the Appian Way would be enough for many people, and two hours enough for most.
