A view down towards Glen Dochart from the pass at Glen Ogle (a corruption of the Scots Gaelic -Gleann Eagal, 'valley of dread') on a frozen winter's day.
These lands once belonged to the MacNabs and the MacGregors but were 'acquired' by the Campbells -especially Black Duncan of the Cowl (Black Duncan of the seven castles). Ultimately the MacGregors were to fall foul of the political establishment being rendered landless and branded as outlaws. Even the very name MacGregor was banned and made illegal. Yet the MacGregors did not fade away but instead took to the hills and became Clann a' Ched (The Children of the Mist) -it was MacGregor against the world. On this background the living legend that was Rob Roy MacGregor arose.
While there's leaves in the forest
And foam on the river,
MacGregor, despite them,
Shall flourish forever!
From MacGregor's Gathering by Sir Walter Scott
