May I copy some of your pictures of Collembola of the family Katianidae ? I am looking for some pictures to illustrated ametabolous cycle. And I found interesting pictures for my text on the Frans Janssens' web site dedicated to Collembola. My text will be included in a general presentation on the metamorphoses in Hexapod world. It is for a new exhibition in a new insectarium in Belgium. Of, I will cite the sources of the pictures and you will be officially acknowledged.
I thank you in advance,
I came across your gallery purely by chance, but am finding springtails quite interesting, while experimenting with what I call extreme macro, i.e. things between 1mm and 7mm. I expect I will be checking on your site in the future against some of my images to check their identification.
Many thanks for your studies,
Hi dear Toby
Thank you very much for your kind comment on my gallery.

Can I use your picture of a woodlouse fly, Rhinophora, to be printed in the bimonthly Dutch journal of Entomology (Entomologische Berichten), accompanying my column. Of course I will mention the source, please let me know how. Your web picture is 148 kb, if you have a still larger one for high-quality print, that will be greatly appreciated.

I am the UK recorder for Springtails (Collembola) and was altered to your site by Frans Janssens. The species that you have as Dicyrtoma fusca
has strongly erect setae on its posterior which suggests a species of Ptenothrix, distinguished from Dicrytoma by lacking a membraneous sheath around the claws. Frans suggested this may be the first UK record of P. carpenteri, but I would like reserve judgement until I can verify this ID. Is there any way that you can send me a specimen of this? Or at least tell me where is was photographed?
I would value any other records of springtails, with name, location and date.

Hi Boris, that e mail is not recognised (maybe left an e out?)but Googled your name and got the BugGuide site which looks really useful.
Hi, fellow naturalist!
as an insect expert, I may tell you some closer identifications to species you photographed. Are you interested? then please mail to thaptor/at/yahoo.de.

if you mean the pop up flash on the camera - it is no good with the MPE65 as it cannot reach over the lens. You need to use a flash like the 430ex mounted off camera on a bracket so it can be near the front of the lens. It is best to diffuse the flash head as well.
Hallo, coul you tell me how well does external flash and MP-E65 function ? Is the external flash sufficient for this macro lense? (pbase.com/racketman/image/63193107)
Thank you, Jan
