Devon, England

These are mostly photos of Silverton, the village I'm from in Devon in the South West of England, and of places nearby. A few are of Cornwall, the county to the west of Devon, where people are Cornish rather than English. and a few are of London.

Silverton is an old Saxon village with the oldest house in the village the one I grew up in - it's 600 years old and is made of cob with a thatched roof. Cob is a mixture of earth and stones with straw mixed in to keep it together. The walls are about 3' thick and keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter. The village church, St Mary, is around 600 years old, too.

Silverton is halfway between the cathederal city of Exeter to the south-west and the market town of Tiverton to the north-east. It's situated in the caldera of an extinct volcano and the land around is very hilly. It has a population of just under 2000 and has 3 pubs... and that's it. Lots of farms, cows, sheep, horses and pigs and apple orchards.
