What Remains

In this old Alabama house, it is not clear why it appears deserted, a victim of fire, water damage, mold, vandalism, yet contains still the belongings of it's former inhabitants. Many look as they were packed up in readiness to rejoin their owner, personal papers and cards, dishes. Yet, some areas look intact - family photos hung on the wall, the Mamie & Ike plate (just like my grandmother had in the 50's) in the arrangement on the mantle - as if their owner just stepped out. I find myself haunted by the unexplained, questioning the story behind the dirt and mess. These pictures may not be photographic masterpieces, but they document a mystery that time will eventually erode.
