Cliff Swallow or Cave Swallow?

Juvenile Cliff Swallows (Petrochelidon pyrrhonota) may be very variable in their plumage. This one resembles a juvenile Cave Swallow (P. fulva). It was perched with Cliff Swallows near Fort Morgan in northeastern Colorado on July 9, 2006. It was also fed by an adult Cliff Swallow on 2 occasions. Click on each photo for a larger image. The close-ups are digiscoped photos.

The second set of photos (page 2) were added after a trip to Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge about 80 miles east of Houston, Texas on 3 Aug 2006. I believe this Petrochelidon swallow is also a pale juv. Cliff Swallow, shown next to a juv. Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica) in one photo.
