Great albums, brought back memories - I participated in the first MMM in 1976 when I was 12 years old. Is there an archive anywhere daing back to the first MMM?

Well its a few days later and to a great joy I found a patch of dirt in between the sod my mom recently placed must have played around in it for an hour then washing my feet is also a fantastic feeling. Ill have to collect as much of it as possible so i can just kinda “use it whenever”.

Earlier today i was at my friends house (course he lives down the street) and well i was fooling around cause the rest of th kids on our road were having a water ballon fight. So later i noticed another boy barefoot and his feet were all muddy so i went home kicked off my sneakers and rode back on my bike but i thought then what my friends would think of me if i trudged around barefoot in it. Then i had an awsome idea to sit on my bike and stand next to some mud. Then i pretended to slip and stepped in the mud with the most amazing feeling which i did again. Of course later my friend was somewhere else and no one was paying attention so i went ahead and jumped right in it (not litterally though) felt so good. My only true regret is that with desire i found some potting soil to reenact earlier but the dirt was all grainy and not squishy.

Anyone ever lost their pants going through the course? Mine have been tugged down before under the weight of the mud.

At mud mania st.louis you are required to go barefoot plus it feels pretty good to have mud squishing between your toes

I have never been to this event, but I love running barefoot in the mud. I love feeling mud between my toes and under my feet.

This looks like great fun!! And I agree,this must be done with bare feet! Feel the mud squishing between your toes is the best part of it.

No, shoes are not required for the obstacle course. In the 2003 gallery there is a kid running the course who is clearly barefoot.

What a great time to be a kid!!! In Detroit we have an event called "Mud Day" where the Wayne County Parks Dept. creates a huge mud pit and kids get to come and wallow in it! I took my 14 year old daughter (for the third year in a row) and her best friend and they had a blast! It was fun to see the looks on the kid's faces who had never done it before when they first saw the mud pit. It was like "I can't belive my parents are really letting me do this!" For Mud Day they give awards to the kids who are most covered in mud, so they all smear mud in their hair and everything! It's really cool!!!

I see in some of the photos, there are some kids who are barefoot. If my kids were to show up barefoot (as they always do -- they hate to wear shoes and go barefoot everywhere), would they be denied entrance, or could they go into some of the areas?

Mud mania is a lot of fun, There is a mud mania in St Louis, Mo. as well and they not only allow you to go barefoot they require you to. You miss 1/2 the fun not feeling mud squish between your toes. There are no proplems going barefoot at St Louis mud mania and it should be allowed here as well!

We recently had a "mud mania" in St. Louis. Seemed that nearly every kid that participated was barefoot. I noticed from your gallery that nearly every kid in the Arizona "mud mania" had shoes on. I was wondering if that was a requirement of the Arizona "mud mania"? I know that one of the most enjoyable parts of the experience was the mud oozing between the kids toes and sticking to the bottoms of their feet. Just wondering about the difference.

This is going to date this event, but when I was a kid our baby sitter took us to this event every year (that was almost 20 yrs ago). I've been taking my little ones to Mighty Mud Mania for the last 2 years! Looking forward to getting muddy again July 29th, 2005!

I wish that our city here in PA did an event something like this each Spring or Summer! This looks like 100% fun for both the kids and parents who want to be kids again, ha ha! :)

This looks really fun! I wonder what it's like for a parent to watch their kid do this!!! It looks like as many girls like to play in the mud as boys (or maybe even more)! Kind of goes against the old saying "sugar and spice and everything nice". It's cool that girls who love to play with dolls and dress up also like to play in the mud. These pictures really capture the delight of wallowing in a slimey, gooey, oozing mud pit and getting to do something that normally isn't allowed! Do they have events like this in other countries?
