A haboob (dust storm) rolls in from the Gila River Indian reservation northward towards the south side of South Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona.


This picture was published in the book 'Weather Extremes of the West', on page 121.

I took the picture from our upper deck (where I also take the lighting shots) so as the storm got close I just walked back into the house. It wasn't a true wall of dust, it gradually got darker until it engulfed us.
