This picture is the mausoleum of Timurshah in center Kabul -- the Afghan King that moved the capital from Kandahar to Kabul in late 18th century.. the building must be constructed in the beginning of 19th century... but as Afghanistan was engulfed in civil war by the followers of the many sons of the King..the building never got completed. However it makes the best exhibition piece of brick architecture as one can see all details and construction as well as structural techniques used.

This building was damaged during the recent war...lots of bullets holes and neglect has allowed water to damaged the structure and the dome to partially fall down.

Aga Khan Trust for Culture has undertaken conservation work in 2002...and I am involved as conservation architect.
