The Neal Cassady: The Denver Years team rolls into San Francisco. Well, SweetJeep and I rolled, the others, flew in. We went most directly using famous US 50, "The Loneliest Highway in America." Mid evening, a truck would go by the other way every 30-45 minutes. On the outskirts of Ely, NV, I got busted for expired registration (Not really, I'm on a Colorado grace period.)
Beautiful scenery, much of the road follows the old Pony Express route. Hard to imagine being on a galloping horse moving slowly across the vastness.
The team caught up with me on Friday and we did the Lawrence Ferlinghetti interview that afternoon.
On Saturday we interviewed Jerry Cimino, owner of The Beat Museum, what a resource! The two women videoing in the background are friends of Carolyn Cassady from Sweden.
On Sunday we spent the day getting background material. First stop, 29 Russell Street. The Cassady family lived here for a few years and Kerouac was there guest for awhile.
On Monday we visited the John Cassady home in San Jose, and met Carolyn and John's sister Kathy and her husband George.
