Kemp's Ridley Rescue - St. Joe's Peninsula (Sub Gallery)
St. Joe Peninsula State Park on Florida's panhandle has about 6 miles of wilderness beach facing the Gulf. One morning last December, while camping there, we decided to walk along the beach at least beyond any footprints that we might find in the sand. A couple of miles into the stroll, we came upon this exhausted sea turtle maybe 30' from the waterline tangled in a very heavy wet plastic woven 'burlap-like' bag full of sand. Luckily I at least had my tiny key chain swiss army knife.
We found out later that it was a Kemp's Ridley sea turtle.....one of the most endangered in the world. Wow!
