Prior to our trip, I was most intrigued by Yant Flat. None of us had been there before and it looked exactly like the type of place we love to visit: off the beaten path with interesting rock features to explore and photograph. It definitely lived up to expectations. My only disappointment was realizing we should have camped there instead of Snow Canyon State Park and given ourselves more time. But we did immensely enjoy our afternoon spent here, it's a beautiful location.
Yant Flat is located in the Pine Valley district of Dixie National Forest north of St. George. The trailhead is 10.5 miles from Leeds just off of I-15, mostly on dirt roads (passable with our camper van). The trail is not officially marked and is an old jeep road; we hiked ~ 1.5 miles to the rim and descended down into Yant Flat. Once we were here we wandered around admiring the swirls, cross bedding, and interesting rocks. There are additional areas we didn’t get a chance to visit; a return visit is definitely in order!
