It was time to head back home on Memorial Day, but we had one last stop. It was about a two hour drive to Watkins Glen State Park, located at the tip of Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes region. I was amused to find the park was right in the downtown area. We parked at the main entrance and embarked on the popular Gorge Trail. We really loved this area - there were so many neat waterfalls, cascades, and pools. The gorge itself was interesting too. The trail is 1.5 miles to the upper entrance, although most of the highlights are seen in the first mile. I especially liked Cavern Cascade and Rainbow Falls.
We finished our hike in the early afternoon and were ready for lunch. It was another gorgeous day and we were on the lookout for a lunch spot with outdoor seating. We found the Village Marina on Seneca Lake. Good find! This was a great spot to soak in the sun and enjoy the day before it was back to the car and the drive home.
This was our first time in the Finger Lakes region and our only regret was that our time here was way too short. We will certainly be back!
