Our flight arrived in Milan 8:30 am Friday morning and we got to Innsbruck by train at 6:30 pm that evening. We stayed at Pension Stoi, which was ideally situated close to the train station and Old Town. We walked through Old Town and had a Tyrolean dinner at Gasthof. We liked what little we saw of Innsbruck and would have loved to have seen more, but we were tired from travel and retired to our room after dinner.
The next morning we were ready to start trekking the Stubai Route. We caught a bus to Neustift and took the cable car Elferbahn into the clouds. From there we hiked to Innsbrucker Hut via Elferhütte and Karalm. The signs indicated it was four hours and my best estimate at the mileage/elevation are around 9 km/5.5 mi, 1070 m/3510 ft ascent, and 501 m/1643 ft descent. We had a brief window of blue sky and views during our hike, but were otherwise in the clouds and rain for the day. Unfortunate because these trails were supposed to have beautiful views of the Pinnistal Valley and mountains. It still felt good though to be on the trail and completing day one of our Stubai hike.
