We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent in Maine last summer and returned this year for another week in Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park. This time we were joined by our pint size traveler, Norah the Explorer, but found that our trip wasn't that much different. We were still out hiking every day, including some of the harder trails in Baxter. We're lucky that Norah enjoys the outdoors as much as we do!
The first half of our week was spent in Acadia National Park. We spent a lot of time along the Ocean Path, especially because Norah was very fond of splashing in the puddles. We also hiked Gorham Mtn, North Bubble, Penobscot, and Sargeant Mountains; all which provided us with fantastic views and an enjoyable way to spend our time on the coast.
The second half of the week was spent in Baxter State Park where we had a cabin at Daicey Pond. Although we were in a cabin, we were still roughing it (relatively speaking). Part of the beauty of Baxter (or the horror, depending on your point of view, lol) is that it feels like true wilderness. There are no facilities in the park and we took in all our own water, food, and cooking supplies. It was nice though to have a bed and a place to spread out our stuff. We really liked the cabins and will likely reserve one on any future trips to Baxter.
We revisited a favorite mountain in Baxter, Doubletop, and hiked a few new ones. We hiked up a slide on OJI and Steve got an early start to hike Katahdin, where he was joined by AT hikers finishing their journey and a local man who was making his 382nd ascent of Katahdin (!). Daicey Pond is also an inviting spot to just sit on the porch and enjoy the views and quiet, which we did plenty of as well.
All in all, it was a terrific trip and I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a family tradition. Thanks for looking at the pictures and enjoy!
