Bull Elk

Friday was another rainy day so we opted to go to Miette Hot Springs at the north end of Jasper park. On our way to Miette, we saw a bull elk on the side of the road. We had heard the elk bugling all during the night and finally saw one. The elk are in the rut and there were signs everywhere warning people to not approach the bull elk as they are particularly dangerous this time of year. One of the rangers we talked to said that she's seen bull elk chase cars and has seen bears running away from them. Luckily, we were able to snap this picture from the safety of our stylin' Crown Vic.

At Miette they have built several pools using the natural hot springs located there. The pools were at higher elevation than the valley and snow was mixed in with the rain. The hot springs were great and it was funny to be outside in a swimsuit when it was snowing.
