Glacier National Park, Montana

The second leg of our Rocky Mountain vacation was a five day visit to Glacier National Park in Montana. The drive from Cooke City to St. Mary, Montana was approximately six hours and upon arrival we secured at campsite inside the park at St. Mary Campground. Glacier National Park is my personal favorite of all the national parks (this was my second visit to the park). My friend Brad and I did a 200 mile backpacking trip in Glacier in 2003. My recent trip reaffirmed that Glacier is definitely the finest of all the national parks in the USA (IMHO of course).

During this trip to Glacier, we had mixed weather: three days pretty good and two days not so good. But we managed to get in a few nice hikes (the Highline trail, Iceberg Lake, Siyeh Pass, and Avalanche Lake). We also had a lot of wildlife sightings - grizzly bears, black bears, bighorn sheep, moose, and mountain goats.
