We had originally planned to continue along the Alta Via 1 route to Passo Staulanza (or further), but had to change our itinerary when we discovered most of the huts had closed early for the season. While we couldn't stay at the huts, several were still accessible as day hikes from Lagazuoi. For our second day hike from Lagazuoi we hiked to Novulau on what would be one of our favorite days. After our long day hiking around the Tofane the day before, we wanted an easier day. So we utilized the cable car to Passo Falzarego - which also made Norah very happy, she really enjoyed the ride. From Passo Falzarego it was only about two hours to Rifugio Novulau via Forcella Averau and Rifugio Averau. Rifugio Novulau is perched on top of a mountain and the 360 views are incomparable. We had spent several days looking at Novulau from Lagazuoi and it was neat to flip our viewpoints. It was an added bonus that Novulau was actually serving lunch and we spent several hours on the deck enjoying our food, drinks, and views. It was one of our favorite places of the trip!
