Dobele is a rather affluent industrial town in West Zemgale. It is a home both to country's largest grain mill and the one of the largest metal processing plants as well as candle, apparel, furniture, chemical factories. Also the surrounding area is quite affluent thanks to fertile soils.

The recently reconstructed central square has a nice feel and walking around in the surrounding area is quite enjoyable. There are rather nice medieval castle ruins.
