You are truly an artist, Phyllis. Being able to rescue a damaged photograph is a labor of love. Sometimes those photos are all we have left of a loved one. If I could vote for this gallery twice, I would :)

Thank you, Eldar. I work beween 20 minutes and 2 hours on each, depending on what it needs, or if it's damaged. There's no "magic" involved, just hand tool work. You can't do much portrait retouching the "easy" way with only levels, curves, and filters, as you can with scenics, for example. When faces are involved, you have to use plain old-fashioned manual methods. For more info on retouching, see the Retouching Tutorials on my photo site at http://www.innographx.com/forum

Thanks, Gene. Actually it's still done with "paint and brushes, " but now the paint is digital, as are the brushes. :)

I really like the work you've done here Phyllis. I especially like the the black & white work, in particular the coversion to color. My mother used to color BW photos for Olan Mills photography, and I always admired her work. Of course then it was with paint and brushes :)

I am so glad that you have shown what can be accomplished in Touch Up techniques, including your extreme examples. There appears to be no limits to these techniques. No photo need be lost because of poor light or other adverse conditions. What is required is time and patience and perseverance! It is an eye opener! However, there can also be beauty in real life, warts and all. Thanks for showing us what is possible!

Thanks, Mattias. I try not to change anyone too drastically unless I'm just playing around, as I was with the #013 weight reduction pic and the old-to-young Aunt Sophia. Those two are unrealistic, but were just for practice...it's fun to see how far you can go! But you are correct that most folks don't want toooo much of a change...usually just a bit of shadow brightening, a bit less wrinkling, or perhaps a new background.
