In the spring and summer of 2006, I was employed by the National Park Service to track Threatened Northern Spotted Owls. After birds were captured, they were fitted with radio-transmitters and released. By tracking the owls, I was able locate their nesting areas, roost sites, or hunting grounds. This information will help shed light on many aspects of this secretive owl's life, such as home range size and movement patterns, that will enable park service biologists to survey and locate them more effectively. |
