May 26, 2007 at approximately 0015hrs – The Nesconset Fire Department was activated for a structure fire across from 422 Lake Drive South. Arriving Chiefs on scene reported a fully involved detached two car garage adjacent to a house.

The first due pumper pulled two lines and engaged the deck gun to knock down the bulk of the fire. Mutual aid was requested for the Hauppauge Fire Department and Ronkonkoma Fire Department. St. James Fire Department as well as Lakeland Fire Department was requested for an ambulance to stand-by at the scene.

The two car garage was a completely destroyed as well as two cars that were parked in the driveway. Nesconset Fire Department made a quick stop to the fire, limiting the damage to the main residence.

One Firefighter/Pump Operator sustained 1st and 2nd degree radiation burns to his arms from the heat of the fire while operating the deck gun and another suffered an ankle injury both were transported to Stonybrook University Medical Center in stable condition.

The cause of the fire at this time is unknown and under investigation.
