Cranbrook Educational Community located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan is a leading center of education, science, and art. It is comprised of a graduate Academy of Art, contemporary Art Museum, House & Gardens, Institute of Science, and Pre-K through 12 independent college preparatory schools. http://www.cranbrook.edu/

Founded by Detroit philanthropists George Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth in 1904 and named after his family's English village in Kent County, Cranbrook’s campus features the work of world-renowned architects such as Eliel Saarinen, Albert Kahn, Steven Holl, Tod Williams, Billie Tsien, and Rafael Moneo; and sculptors Carl Milles, Marshall Fredericks, Mario Korbel, and others. Wolf Von Eckhardt, former architecture critic for the Washington Post, once called Cranbrook "the most enchanted and enchanting setting in America", and Paul Goldberger, formerly the architecture critic of the New York Times, called Cranbrook "one of the greatest campuses ever created anywhere in the world." In 1989 Cranbrook was designated a National Historic Landmark.

As a former student of Kingswood School Cranbrook back in the early '50s, looking at the incredibly beautiful photography of the school and grounds certainly brings back many fond memories Thank you for this treasure!

Beautiful pictures...I also grew up not far from cranbrook..I used to skip school on a regular basis, and would find myself @ cranbrook.It was my favorite place to go and just get lost in the surroundings! At least i was drawn to an educational place!

Thanks for the pictures, Jay. Although I didn't live there, I grew up at Cranbrook and have many photos displayed in my CA home. Just this morning I was looking at a framed Orpheus Fountain close-up my mother took there back in '92. I'm also fortunate to have a Pierre Bittar print of Ellie's Garden hanging in our bedroom.

Oh, and I've never heard of the "no photo" policy. I'll check on that.

I live across the street from Cranbrook School and I am so privileged to be able to walk or go for a run thru this truly amazing campus any time. I will soon have to leave this area and I will really miss the architecture, sculptures, the gardens, and all the beauty that Cranbrook has to offer. Thank you so much for all your photos as I will often look back at them and remember this incredible campus.

Beautiful images of this great place! I live in Birmingham close to the campus and I really hope that my son (2 years) will attend Cranbrook School later.
It´s such a great place full of opportunities and the campus reflects this beauty.
By the way, Cranbrook is one of our country´s most elite schools. It´s the Andover and Exeter of the Mid West. It´s equally good as Deerfield or Choate. And: The campus is even more beautiful!!
