Inside An Old Church In St. Mawes

The inscription "St. Mawes sets sail for the coast of Armorica" first came as a shocker. Did St. Mawes precede Christopher Columbus? Actually,
St.Mawes (or St. Mawe) was a welsh abbot in the Dark Ages. He lived as a hermit near Falmouth in Cornwall, where his name is still
venerated. He then went to an island off the coast of Brittany, France, where he is revered as St. Maudez. He is
believed to have founded monasteries and churches in Cornwall and Brittany.

Armorica is an ancient name for the northwest part of France, especially Brittany
