I was told by an elderly gentleman that the swooping raked rear window style was originally referred to as "fazzback"- later it became "fastback"
I've never looked into the truth of the matter..never the less, I find the styling irresistable, sexy, beautiful. It's early aerodynamic, like a dolphin or shark in water. They look to be moving when they're standing still!
General Motors made them for more years than any other American motor company-- Buicks, Chevys, Cadillacs (simply incredible)and Oldsmobiles. The last one was made in '51 I believe, until the Corvette Sting Ray in '63, inspired no doubt by the beautiful Jaguar XKE's. Thereafter, Ford, Studebaker, & Plymouth, got into the act
