Dad: sorry to say there will be no Pooch Blog updates for a short while. Yesterday we were out walking in the Yorkshire Dales when Pooch was attacked by another dog. The attack was entirely unprovoked, Pooch was on a short leash and trotting happily at my side when another, much larger, dog came rushing up out of nowhere and proceeded to jump on top of Pooch, roll him over and start biting viciously at Pooch's neck and shoulder. The dog's owner was nowhere to be seen and we couldn't get the dog away from Pooch. Eventually there was a loud shout and the dog dashed away again - lucky for us it was obedient to its owner's shout.
Pooch not surprisingly was very shocked and frightened although amazingly not seriously hurt - thankfully the attacking dog missed biting anything crucial. There was one fairly deep bite in Pooch's shoulder but the vet has seen it and decided against stitches. Pooch will be resting at home over the next few days with some gentle walks locally until he has healed and got over this horrible experience.
It was so tempting to go after the dog's owner and give her a piece of my mind. She just grabbed her dog's collar and walked away as fast as she could in the opposite direction, with no apology or acknowledgement or anything. Unbelievable. Luckily my wife, although very distressed, stopped me from going after her - because of course a shouting match would not have helped the situation. Fortunately there were several witnesses to the attack and the local police will do a much better job of dealing with that irresponsible owner than I possibly could.
Here's the only shot we took yesterday, before the trouble started. We hope it won't be too long before Pooch is back where he belongs, out enjoying the hill walks again.

Poor Pooch - must have had such a shock - I'm so pleased it wasn't worse and he's getting better. I can't imagine how scary it must have been for you - big dogs can be so powerful and without the owner in sight it must have been terrifying!

What a sad and infuriating story. :-( I am glad I saw his most recent birthday shot before reading this. People can be so careless with their animals.

I hope Pooch recovers fully (both mentally and physically).

So sorry to hear about this, Mum and Dad... I hope Pooch recovers quickly and isn't traumatized by this all. Hang in there. Wish we could be there for you.

Oh my gosh- - I am so sorry. I am always terrified of things like that with my small dogs. Please get well soon, little Pooch.

Lovely shot. So sorry that Pooch was assaulted--stupid people who thinks rules are for other people! I hope he does better soon. Tell him we will miss him while he is out.

It's irresponsible dog owners like that that give all dog owners a bad name - how disturbing. I don't know how you held your temper - good thing Poochmum was there too. I would be livid. Chase and Ditch send a big wet slurp Pooch's way and wish him all the best. We look forward to seeing his Blog soon :)

Beautiful dog !!!
Sorry to hear about his incident. Hope you and Pooch have a rapid recovery. We used to take our dog (half shepherd-half collie) walking in the neighborhood, on her harness. She loved it. About three houses down there lives a white poodle that would come running out to bite at her legs every time. We repeatedly asked the owner of the dog to hold it back, but she wouldn't. Tawney never bit back (she thinks she's a people) but we did stop taking her for walks in the neighborhood.

Shocked and sorry to hear this happen. Glad to hear that Pooch survived this attack as
well as he did. Hopefully Pooch and family will recover soon to again share his
adventures and this beautiful scenery with the rest of the world.

Forgot to mention - what a beautiful scene & lovely shot!
Yvonne09-Oct-2006 09:14
Heavens! That's TERRIBLE! How irresponsible of the owner of the attacking dog! So glad to hear Pooch wasn't badly bitten - but what a terrible shock for our poor little dog! Give him a BIG hug from us - and perhaps a favourite "tinny" and extra cuddle...
