Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but this beauty - the sight of a well re-engineered car - may be somewhat of an acquired taste and peculiar to gearheads. Nevertheless, I'll photographically present some of the work of a good friend of mine, the founder of 'Nitemare Performance'. His addiction to excessive horsepower and his enthusiasm for race cars is only exceeded by his passion to modify and restore them. Some would consider his passion for automobiles almost syndromic, but since I believe such a condition has yet to be defined psychiatrically, I'll just call him a very serious enthusiast. Darrin's 'art-studio' is a 6 bay garage featuring two service station-style car lifts and a machine shop equipped with all the necessary equipment to machine your own cylinder heads, or convert a car equipped with a 6 cylinder engine and 3 speed automatic transmission to a V8 with a six speed manual. The Taj Mahal was built to honor a great love and so was Darrin's 'Garage Mahal'. When Darrin performs surgery on a car he undoes every nut and bolt, sand blasts and powder coats, paints or plates every part, many parts are replaced with custom built or aftermarket parts to enhance the performance and looks of the cars he builds. High powered cars can be very addictive and Darrin is a hopeless case, but he doesn't consider this an addiction but a passion about which he must spread the word by example!!!!
