Nature reigns, Jackson, California, 2008

Parts of Jackson’s old cemetery have been virtually turned back to nature. In this case, a human grave gives way to a massive tree. Small in scale, and bent backwards under great pressure, the tiny headstone is no match for the inexorable pressure of nature. In a symbiotic gesture, man nourishes nature here.

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. Man is a part of nature from his beginning to his end -- and after. As for your wish to fertilize a tree, it seems more productive than being hermetically sealed into a box or urn for eternity.

Interestingly enough you have captured my hope for the future of my "earthly remains" I would love to become fertilizer for a tree.
