The Hand of Man, Yosemite National Park, California, 2008

The skillful fingers of this photographer cradle a tiny camera as he quietly stalks a chattering squirrel just outside of Yosemite’s famed Ahwahnee Hotel. Together, fingers and camera repeat the arc of a fragile sprig of greenery emerging from the tree – a tree that abstracts the image by hiding the photographer from us. The photographer, of course, is not aware of this symbiotic natural relationship. But the viewer will be.

There is passion in these fingers -- the photographer plays the camera like a musician plays an instrument. He holds it so lightly -it is an extension of his soul. You can see the hand of experience here -- no fumbling, just assurance. Thanks for seeing the concentration and gentleness, too. And thanks, too, for noting the enthusiastic support of the little sprig, too, Tim.

There is such a sense of concentration in this image. It is, I think, conveyed by the gentle gesture of the hands. Also, it seems as if the sprig is looking on in appreciation.
