Truck grille, Darwin, California, 2007

I found this truck rusting away in a Darwin empty lot. I moved in on the grille to feature one of its lights, contrasting the relatively clean glass to the rusting body, which appears as if it has been a canvas for an abstract painter. If we look at the subject as a junked truck, this sight is horrific. But if we look at it as a piece of accidental art, everything changes, and there is a perverse beauty to it all.

Thanks, Dan, for commenting on this image. It is always productive to "think small" when photographing something that is very large. By taking this detail out of its context, I've tried to express the essence of this subject.

A very well seen, wonderfully interpreted, very artistic automotive abstract. I love it! ~BV~

It drew my interest, too, Dandan. If I can make a peace of junk -- and that is what this is -- of interest to my viewers, I must be creating that sense of intimacy you talked about in the earlier image. I isolate textures, shapes, and forms and juxtapose them within my frame at close range to show people something they may have never really closely looked at before.

the different forms, shapes and texture make it so interesting.
