Fishing fleet, Essaouira, Morocco, 2006

Essaouira, an ancient walled city on Morocco's Atlantic coast, is home to a large fishing fleet. The blue boats are moored so closely together than one could almost walk across the harbor on them. The cumulative power of all of these fishing boats crunched with the four sides of my frame is greatly intensified by the fact that all of them are the same color, and a primary color at that!

Good eye, Tim -- thanks for pointing out the placement of the contrasting colors in this image. There is one other color in this image, white, that does not follow the flow, yet white is so neutral that it does not conflict with the color placement here. One of the functions of color is to carry the eye into an image (Remember the 'Yellow Brick Road?") Both the prows and the color variations you point out do that here.

The strong zig-zagging line of prows not only cuts through the image like a slashing, but it also is the location of the colors that aren't the blue.

Thanks, Mo. Once again, the blue here is Essaouira's blue. And the vantage point draws boat into boat, bow into bow.

Great use of color and of your vantage point
