Choices, Kiev, Ukraine, 2009

Using a standard 28mm wideangle focal length, I photographed the person in the foreground just as she passed me, building the image around her upcoming decision – which way will she go, left or right?
The figures already at the steps on each side of the image intensify that choice, asking us to guess which one she will follow. The very nature of the underpass has created a theatre for the imagination here.

Thanks, Kal -- the points of the triangle and almost robotic postures do indeed express drone-like mechanical pace here. As for the timing, I must admit I used burst shooting. I saw the three of them before me, held down the shutter button, and ran off about eight frames or so. This one best expressed the feeling I wanted to get across.

Thanks for this wonderful comment, Claudia. If it was not for this gallery devoted to Underpass photography, I would have posted this photo in Gallery Fifty Four, which is devoted to composing with triangles. The triangular form relates one element to two others here, and poses the idea of choice.

This timing is also quite impressive.
The three of them in syhchro with each a different step in the evolution of a walk.
You could not have asked for better positioning at the 3 points of an
equilateral triangle. And the light, well, as always, mastered by a...master ;))
