Concert, Tunis, Tunisia, 2008

While we were visiting Tunisia, the country celebrated New Era Day, a commemoration of President Ben Aliís coup of November 7, 1987. Ali is still in power twenty-one years later. Here his blurred image waves from dozens of flags, carried by school children singing a national song in concert on the steps of Tunisí Theatre Municipal. I made this image by ambient light at night, using a full second to express the joyful emotions of the singing children.

Thanks, Rusty, for seeing the poetry here -- the image is a flow of motion, yet we not only see the president's face at center, but the faces of two of the celebrants along the bottom of the image as well.

very poetic. rich deep colors, with the president's image just peeking thru in a couple of places.

Glad you like this one, Mo -- it certainly caught the essence of the holiday celebration.

One of my favorites of your Tunisia gallery

I understand why this image is in this gallery, but I am also seeing it in light of the political iconography. Here the image of the president is blurred - giving us a view that perhaps some of the Tunisians also feel.

Thanks for listening to this image, Carol. I can still hear the music.

The blur plus the warm colors here really do express the excitement and joy. One can almost hear the revelry!
