Well there seem to be two protect-the-young strategies for mother killdeer. One is their famous "Oh, I have a broken wing! Come get me over here! (as I head off in a direction that will draw you away from my babies)". Apparently their second one is "Get behind me kids! - Hey, you want them? You gotta get past ME first!
