Occurs: mountains, piedmont and coastal plain
Habitat: mountain forests, rock outcrops and dry wooded slopes
often associated with Kalmia latifolia or Rhododendron maximum
Nearly ubiquitous in the mountains, but uncommon in the coastal plain.
