After searching in the woods for about an hour or so and finding the orchids, mosses,
and other goodies, I found the trilliums in full splendor.

Blooming time: late March to mid April
Occurs: endemic to the outer Coastal Plain of NC and SC
Habitat: floodplains near small streams, swampy woods, and calcareous savannas
Endangered in NC and rare in SC
Note: listed in Weakley's Flora as occuring in the moutains of NC.
