The Photo Lab (2004)

One of my favorite photographs. This is the abandoned photo lab. It was bulldozed about two years after this photo was taken. This picture was taken with the classic Lumix FZ-1.

Jesse Fernandez (E-5 then). I was the NCOIC of the 21st TFS, Life Support Shop. My tour was from Apr.1980 to August 1982. Then, NCOIC or the 20th TFS, Life Support Shop until 1983. My good memories are of meeting up with my old Sq. Commander Col. Terry (Duke) from the 308 TFS, Homestead, Fla.

I worked in the 37th CRS jet shop and remember the photo lab very well - I went there to have my passport taken in 1982. "One very sad moment affiliated with the photo lab was the death of a young Airman or Sergeant [forget her rank..] who worked there and took my picture for the passport... she died [was murdered] sometime in 1982. I don't recall her name... that was a shocking time for everyone on base... we all knew her. I bought her green Mazda RX-4 afterward, little realizing at the time the story behind the sale and who the owner was, but bought it just the same... didn't run very unfortunately... but, overall, Very Good times [and sad] on GAFB 1981 - 1983

I have some old blueprints from the base that I would be more than willing to share. You can email me at nolofinwe@yahoo.com if you would like to see them

Hi. My name is Jenn Kubly. I was born on George AFB in June 1974. My dad's name is Denny Kubly. I'm trying to surprise him by getting memorabilia from the AFB for his birthday. Can you give me any suggestions? I'd love to talk with you 419-721-2112
Thanks

It's sad to know that the Photo Lab and most of the base is gone. I worked in this building from 1971 to 1974. We had a great group of people and since we had our own building nobody bothered us. I went inside the abandoned building in 2000 when I was in vacation. Brings back many memories.

I feel good about the Joshua tree in this photo. It seems to be givng Uncle Sam the finger. I'm ok with that. GAFB '78 - '82 (Sheet Metal shop)

I worked there everyday from April 1973 until Aug 1977. I almost cried when I saw what had happened to our building. I was thinking of trying to buy it (I live in Victorville) but the bulldozers got to it first.
