Desolate City

l´Aquila, Abruzzo view map

Three and a half years after a quake devastated L'Aquila, large parts of the center remain boarded up. L'Aquila is just like Pompeii, a ghost town only visited by some people who come just to see the ruins. Shoes and broken ornaments still lie in the dust in abandoned homes. Only four families have moved back into the city center, officials said.

Strong image and so bad to learn nothing has been done to repair. Its a shame, considering how rich Italy is. A great composirion with the old man ! V.

I knew that the quake was devastating; however, I did not realize that the entire town became a ghost town! Fabulous capture Pieter! V

A very powerful image. The light on the wet cobbles hint at how beautiful
it once was while the old man begging is a sad reminder of lives destroyed by the quake. V
