The below text (after my words in bold text) is directly taken from Marci Bowers website. I read the words written about her and feel they best tell you about who she is. I can tell you in a brief sentence my thoughts. Meeting her and photgraphing Marci was simply a pleasure. Her captivating presence and her educational background make her extremely easy to listen too. Marci Bowers delivers a very warm presentation about herself and the SRS surgeries that she preforms. She describes what she does as an art form, and hearing her talk about it you truly hear the passion in her voice. I'm truly blessed having the opportunity to meet such a beautiful, well educated, well respected doctor such as herself. Any I hope my art form of photography shows a little bit more about her from my perspective. Please read onto learn more about Dr. Bowers
Marci Bowers is a 46-year old Gynecologic Surgeon who in January 2003 joined renowned SRS surgeon, Dr. Stanley Biber in Trinidad, Colorado. A 1986 Medical School graduate from the University of Minnesota, she served as class and student body President. She is a former Department Chairperson at Swedish Medical Center (Providence) in Seattle and had consistently been one of the busiest surgeons in Seattle until her move to Colorado. Dr. Bowers brings 17 years of pelvic surgery experience to her work in gender surgery. She was voted as one of America's Best Doctors for 2002-2003 and was recently elected to the prestigious European Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Bowers performs a penile inversion technique for SRS (Male-to-Female), nearly identical to that performed by Dr. Biber in more than 6000 surgeries and by Dr. Biber's protégé's, Drs. Meltzer and Schrang. Marci Bowers is the latest surgeon to benefit from Dr. Biber's tutelage and experience.
As a Gynecologist, Marci has made several modifications to Dr. Biber's procedure. These include utilizing the dorsal nerve and glans to create a sensate clitoris. Dr. Bowers also has worked towards the goal of a 'one-stage' procedure. While labiaplasty is still an option that some patients choose (at least 3 months later, with an additional charge), many of her SRS patients are now satisfied with the appearance and function of their new genitalia following their SRS without the need for a labiaplasty.
"Many have come here to Trinidad to learn the surgery...some didn't have the hands, some didn't have the confidence, and some didn't have the heart. Marci is the first to have all three" Stanley Biber, MD (as stated in the TLC documentary "The Sex Change Capital of the World")
"Make no mistake...Marci IS the future of Transgender Surgery" Douglas Ousterhout, MD
