These are from a 2009 trip to mainland Greece and 2 of the Cyclades islands, Santorini and Naxos.
Santorini is truly a visual potent location where one can not but feel infinitesimal against Nature's backdrop.
The island is tainted with massive tourist dedicated commerce and activities and downtown Fira gets cramped up with hordes of people when 2 or 3 cruise ships happen to call the old port.
Regardless, one's enjoyment of the island and its visual treasures is only slightly affected by it, since the majestic and overwhelming stance of Mother Nature really eclipses everything else.
Sunset at the northern village of Oia is a social event in itself, one that really MUST be attended if you ever visit the island.
Naxos is also a tourist oriented island and it compensates the relatively unappealing landscape with excellent beaches that, off the peak season, can mean as much as having one completely dedicated to yourself and your party.
We also visited Athens, Ancient Delphi and the Meteora Monasteries in mainland Greece.
Athens is a bit repetitive overall but, of course, the Acropolis and the surrounding neighborhoods (specially the Plaka) more than fully justify a visit. Just great...
I left with the distinctive feeling that mainland Greece deserves a full , long-stay visit, renting a car and enjoying it at our own pace.
I really hope this gallery somewhat conveys the pleasant and truly different days we enjoyed in those places.
