Kawakawa Toilets by Hundertwasser

I am not in the habit of taking a camera into public toilets, but you can be forgiven in Kawakawa. Frederick Hundertwasser's toilet was opened in a dawn ceremony. To Hundertwasser, a toilet is very special because you meditate in a toilet. Like a church. "The similarity is not so far fetched" - he says. Kawakawa was Hundertwasser's home for 25 years. Hundertwasser says straight lines are evil. There are no straight lines in the toilet. Only crooked beauty. (Taken using a Kodak DC280)

I have used these toilets very recently on my trip to NZ. Great place. Had to visit as the railway station in my home town was rebuilt with plans by Hundertwasser. See links http://www.hundertwasserbahnhof.de/architektur/fotos.htm

Hello, I am an art teacher and discovered your Kawakawa images while looking for Hundertwasser work to show to year 8 children. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to post these images. Surprising little visual resource exists on the net of Hundertwasser's, in this detail and quality. They also got me thinking about the toilets. Are they clean? Do the cubicles have doors? Are they an ecological facility? Thanks again!

I like your pictures a lot, big fan of Hundertwasser. A small note, however, his name is Friedensreich Hundertwasser and not Frederick.
