Not sure I agree with "Guest" and not sure where he or she is from. It was seen today, May, smaller than cicadas we normally see in these parts. (January-February is our cicada season). I have also seen these around in the past.

Excellent photograph. It is one of the 3 types of Cicadas that are predicted to emerge between May and June. They surface once every 17 years. The last time they emerged from the ground was in 1987.
